Mendeley (PDF Reader) App Reviews

crashes after the update

i liked the app but it became so slow and annoying :(

STILL cannot log into my account

I have hundreds of highlighted articles, and I CANNOT get into my account. PLEASE FIX

Buggy. And Still No Line Breaks

Another feature update that prioritizes turning Mendeley into a social media application over fixing/improving the individual user experience. How is it, with the number of updates that have been rolled out over the past year and a half, that the "Notes" section on a document still doesnt support line breaks? Why do highlights/annotations spontaneously duplicate themselves every once in a while, only to disappear on re-opening a file? Why do documents longer than 30 pages induce an unholy amount of lag? Prioritize fixing the individual user experience Mendeley.

Many Wrinkles Need Attention

The recent update just seemed to add a hue of blue to left-hand pane. The new version does not provide an easy indication of the sync status of my library when the app is opened (instead you need to go to a single document to see this). The sync bar that indicates the progress of sync comes and goes (seeing the progress of syncing in this app is particularly important so I can see if it is getting hung up somewhere). Finally, for whatever reason, if you are highlighting and annotating in the iOS app and you leave Mendeley to go to another app, your highlighting and notes will be duplicated. No idea why and the support on this question has been less than helpful. All in all, it is still Mendeley, it is still a fantastic service. There are just some issues in the most recent update that need attention.

No Way to Read Documents

On this updated version of Mendeley, there is quite literally no way to open documents for reading. No "download" button and no "read" button. This, obviously, completely defeats the purpose of the app.

Cannot logout and login with new credentials

I have updated my email and password. I cannot logout to log in again. I am not able to access the new uploads on my account until I can log in with new credentials.

Good on my ipad but...

Overall works ok on my ipad. If they make a stronger pdf editor with more options of editing or annotating on the ipad app it will become more useful.

Doesnt generate citations/bibliographies in app

The app is great for organizing academic papers and importing them from the internet. However, the primary reason I want an app like this is to use when traveling or away from a desktop to generate citations or bibliographies. This app does not do that. While a lot of the fault lies with how Apple limits integration of apps, I would at least like to be able to select a set of papers and generate a bibliography that I could copy and paste for when I am not able to use the Mendeley desktop application/Word plug-in.

Recently has failed to work

Until recently this was one my favourite go to apps. Recently however, it has been glitching and consistently failing to update. I deleted and then re-downloaded the application, but that has only resulted in me not being able to sign in as the app has frozen.

Doesnt work

I love Mendeley on my computer but it doesnt sync with my tablet. I need my papers to be mobile and theres no point in a Mendeley app that cant do that. Its slow and glitchy.

Update broke everything

Completely unable to login. Useless now. Fix this ASAP.

Still my favorite Ref Software

The metadata gathered by this software is much better than others I have used. It helps by cutting down on time entering information. As a Doctoral student there is a lot of articles I must go through managing through this app syncing iPhone, iMac and iPad quickly save a lot of time. Im continually impressed by the updates that make it better. If we could just get the journal sites to do direct import it would be awesome. Keep up the good work!

New update makes the app perfect!

This app is great and it is really nice that you can sync it with the desktop version. And now, you can load citation data by the DOI numbers in the app, as you can in the desktop version. In fact as soon as you open a PDF in mendeley it will find all of the article details automatically to archive!!! No more syncing my library on the desktop and doing that manually!!!!!! it would be nice to have the ability to draw on the articles. The note option is great, but being able to draw in addition to that feature would be awesome. (Like in adobe reader)

Best ref software

I love Mendeley. I can annotate PDFs in it and, more importantly, track references and insert them in papers with the desktop version. One issue: the "Add URL" button doesnt seem to work. Id also love to change highlight color for coding purposes while I annotate.

Almost perfect

Multi-platform, quick archiving, decent customization options, and really good annotator for the pdfs. If you are looking for a library manager, look no further. I use it across multiple computers and my Ipad without any troubles.

Too many bugs, iPad just doesnt cut it for efficiency.

The sync function constantly hangs, the search function doesnt work at all - just returns "no results" every time, and every time I switch from one library area to another I have to reset it to display by author. Just little things that are critical to a solid workflow. Nothing on the iPad works well.

If I file is not in a folder its invisible

This is a perfect app I have a huge database of references that I can now keep organized and can search and reach what I want in seconds However I still face a problem when I forget to tag a file since the unsorted folder only shows in the desktop app which is not available to be at all times

The best app to read store your articles PDFs and notes

It has mac windows iOS version. It has cloud synchronization. It supports modify PDFs. Better than iBook kindle or any other apps. Its free. Love this app after 3months usage.

Wow, its really good. Free and cross platform!!

Ive been using Mendeley desktop for well over 5 years now and its been amazing. Now that the iOS version has had some time to mature this is by far the best pdf reader, organizer, annotater, reference manager and friend you could ask for. Did I mention its all free and runs on windows OS X and Linux. No matter where I login from I have all 800+ articles at my disposal. Get it now!

Plain horrible, no change over a few years

Ive tried to use their app on and off for a few years. Its just plain horrible. Its buggy, crashes, lacks a few basic features, and is mostly unusable. I wish it wasnt, cause Id use the heck out of it if it was good.
