Mendeley (PDF Reader) App Reviews

195 add

Needs lots of work!

Sync not consistent, added file using desktop but app wont sync it, even though synced online. Seems to have added ability to remove PDF file from phone/iPad once youve read it, but APP CRASHES when I try to delete a pdf. Would like ability to highlight, select and copy text from within app. Glad it is presently free, if functionality is improved would be worth paying for, but for now, not worth it. Oh, and it crashes randomly & frequently - closing the program, leaving you trying to figure out where you left off. Great concept, and good that I can read files offline, but a hassle to use.

Could be so much better

I was so excited to hear about this program, both for ipad and PC, but so far Ive been disappointed. It has potential, but it needs work. For instance, I cant even sort my articles into folders on the app! I hope there is an update soon!

Lacking required features

The app crashes regularly, is difficulty to sync with my paid Mendeley account and it does not support PDF annotation and highlighting. It is difficult to see what the intended use of this app is. Reading new papers could be great if the highlighting and annotation features from the desktop version of Mendeley were included. Overall, this still seems like a work in progress, but given the slow progress the team has made on this app I wonder how serious they really are about supporting Mendeley on iOS and iPad.

No highlight or annotation?!

What the hell is the point of this app when you can just view PDFs? I can view and store my papers on Dropbox and iBooks already.

Worth a download

Pro: Its nice to sync with my online account and take articles to go. Con: cant highlight/annotate on the iPad version. I hope this will come soon, then it will be a 5 star worthy app.

3GS problems

The program never worked on my 3GS. It would continually crash and/or never load

Not worth it

I m a mendeley fan but this ap is so bad it crashes slow down all my iPhone and doesnt load my libraries well

Seriously??? No highlighting or annotating?

I just expected that Id be able to get comfortable with my iPad for a reading session and have all the tools I needed to do research... not so! Mendeley on the iPad is just another PDF viewer. Very disappointing considering the outstanding nature of the desktop app.

Cant access my files cross-platform?

The ipad app allows me to see all my paper references but I cannot click through to the pdf to read. Is this a bug?

Really good app on both iOS and Mac OS X

I just spent a couple hours loading a couple hundred articles into Mendeley, and was quite happy with how the system works. I can edit, annotate, etc. the articles on the desktop app, and they are synced with the app at all times. Really nice. The only downfall is the reader portion of the app, which is missing two crucial things for me: 1) the ability to remember where I left off reading an article; 2) the ability to read articles in landscape format on my iPhone. #2 I can solve by opening in Adobe Reader instead, but it would be nice if they could add these two small things - then I would definitely rate it 5 stars.

Seems like the Alpha version. Unusable on my iPad mini.

I really wanted to like this app, having grown tired of Papers. Took me several tries for it to sync properly. The developers support page shows how many bugs users are finding. For me, using the search bar crashes the app, I cant switch between landscape and portrait, and just now the in-app Settings button stopped working. This is an embarrassing app. I hope the new version, expected in March, is actually functional.

Seemed to work but then...

Spent 2 hours capturing articles my first time using the iPad app and while it was a slower go than the desktop version, it was very handy. Trying to use it today, it was stuck in portrait mode, so I uninstalled and reinstalled only to find that none of the articles I added yesterday were saved. Great waste of time!

Buggy

Worked fine for several months, now it crashes on me and doesnt sync properly. I cant seem to get the file download and PDF viewer to work either.

Doesnt download all the PDF files.

Tried to use the app and sync the ipad with my MacBook but apparently it doesnt download all the PDF files, the files all open fine in MacBook but I couldnt figure out why it downloads some but doesnt the others, I even tried to sync multiple time, still not good....

This actually loads on my iPhone now

The new version actually runs on my iphone 5. It works!!! The old version - wont load my refs, freezes. Crashes. Fixed!

Version 2 very nice and getting better

Version 2 of Mendeley is finally a usable product, and in many ways better than the competitors.

The best way to read academic articles

Great integration with the desktop applications, with a nice annotation system Wish list: Allow advanced searches Get article details when importing on ios Fix rotation behaviour so that reading can resume immediately without searching for where you left off

Great!

Great application for a quick reference on the go.

Need to catch up with iOS7 design now!

Need to renovate the UI and its operation. And the most important, please add more annotation tools like other PDF readers, including underline, direct typing, handwriting and shapes!

Development is slow

Been following the development of this app both desktop and mobile. But development is too slow and good feature requests are being ignored in favor or easier to implement but useless features. Needs DropBox or OneDrive sync, and annotations that actually show up in other programs like Acrobat. I wouldnt mind paying for it if it was a more complete platform.
