Mendeley (PDF Reader) App Reviews

Currently the import of publications from safari is very unreliable. Most times I have to restart Mendeley to being able to import a pdf from safari. As this is an important part of the workflow 3 stars is the most I can give for an otherwise really useful tool.

The app is unable to access most of the PDFs in my Mendeley libraray. I can look up references, but I cant read papers in it.

Good for viewing papers in PDF and supported formats, though a little sluggish on larger documents. Need a way to view web content that was added through the desktop UI. A few crashes during sync.

Help keep track of my references, though I use iAnnotate for most of my reading, commenting, marking-up, etc. Would be nice to load in the background, though: it takes several minutes to load up my 3000+ references, and I cant swap out to another app since that just pauses the loading...

First I must say that I love the desktop application of Mendeley. The iPad app is nice to sync my literature library onto my iPad but the search function is seems faulty (slow, crashes or freezes the window). Please improve this experience and it will be 5 star for me.

Its nice to be able to see the papers you downloaded in your iPad but the lack of commenting tools to highlight text and make notes is a BIG miss!!

Just barely lets you read PDF from your synched library. PDF margins are all wrong and PDF options are awful. I dont actually know what this lets me do with my mendeley account besides get a glimpse of what I have in my library as a reminder. I am very disappointed, I was forced to do the dropbox folder for my mendeley PDF library and use Good Reader to view and mark up papers, but then I dont get my highlighting or notes back in Mendeley when I go back to my other computers. And I dont see my notes or highlighting in mendeley on the iPad but have not tried very hard because the page size is so wrong. If only they could integrate this with GoodReader or someone who knows how to handle PDFs, I dont want a standalone app, I just want to have all my papers, notes and citations info in one place across all my machines.

The original release, 1.2, worked reasonably well, then came 1.3 and it was useless, crashing every minute or so. They just updated to 1.3.1 and the benefit is that it now crashes about every 5 seconds. Seriously??? Does no-one even check the new version of the app on an iPod/iPad even ONCE before uploading it??? I get the feeling they updated to the latest version to wipe the slate clean of all the bad reviews on the last version. This app could be great, but buggy doesnt even begin to describe it. The current version is a complete waste of time, if you have an old version, whatever you do, dont update.

I really like it, but this version keeps crashing. Hope you repair it very soon.

for example, my folders are in random order although on my computer theyre fine. full screen is not possible nor rotation lock. editing pdfs would be a nice addition. now its only good to have acces to all my papers. and it barely ever gets updated.

I cant figure out how to view my pdfs on this app! Theres no option at all. So far it seems the only purpose for this app is to see whats in your mendeley collection...whats the point of that?! I recommend a help menu for the app in the future updates , in addition to a major overhaul that will make this app a worthy tool on the iPhone.

This is the most unreliable app I have used. Every time I switch to portrait orientation the app crashes. There also seems to be no way to hide the sidebar when viewing a paper in landscape mode.

The desktop version works great, unlike the Lite version. It constantly crashes and you cant get any work done. Seriously needs a version update to fix the bugs.

And auto sync is on... So crashes everytime. Kind of an embarrassing app actually considering the success of the desktop. It works fine for the iPhone but just doesnt work for the iPad

Im using iPhone 4 with iOS 5. My app hasnt crashed yet. It opens PDFs properly and works well in landscape mode. Its even quite fluid, I can manipulate the zoom and move from page to page very smoothly. Im having a good experience with this app. I would like highlighting and annotation features included, especially if they sync well with my desktop program.

First version that doesnt crash! Otherwise really a Lite version, searches by authors still useless (took 45 sec to search a 500 docs library!). Its mostly a front end for the website with offline storage. Its the only cross platform option with web sync at the moment. Really hope they will get a paid version with annotation sync and proper search.

First, this is the most stable release so far so their is progress. But you can have the biggest and most extensive library on the desktop, but on an iPhone to go through it you need the search function to work well and not lock up the app or even crash it. Unfortunately this makes the app kinda worthless until this is fixed, and I wont pay money for a product that touts cross compatibility until that feature works. I have to resort now to Mendeley Desktop (with renamed files) + Dropbox + GoodReader until this gets better.

I just uploaded this app onto my iPad. If I try to load more than one file at a time through iTunes file sharing, the PDFs dont load, but I get the info on the files. Please make this app able to drag and drop several files at a time! I have 100s of PDF files Id like to read. I might pay for the Papers app instead.

Easy to use. Can Sync all your gadgets and have access to all your articles. Never crashed here. Plus its FREE. Much better sync options than other apps like Papers.
